The National Historical Archives of Belarus has prepared and posted a virtual exhibition dedicated to the International Tourism Day on the archive’s website.
The holiday was established by the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization in 1979 in the Spanish city of Torremolinos. It is celebrated annually on September 27. The purpose of the holiday is to promote tourism, highlight its contribution to the economy of the world community, and develop ties between the peoples of different countries.
The exhibition displays documents from 1858-1916, including government circulars and reports of institutions on conducting excursions, materials on medical and preventive institutions of the early 20th century, lists of excursionists, and a number of others.
The identification and selection of materials was carried out by Aksana Zenko, a leading researcher in the Department of Research and Publication Activities.
