Joint meeting of the work collectives of the National Historical Archives of Belarus and BelNIIDAD

On September 17, 2024, a joint meeting of the work collectives of the National Historical Archives of Belarus and the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Affairs was held in the conference hall of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, dedicated to the state holiday – National Unity Day. On this day, our country celebrates a fateful event in its history – the 85th anniversary of the reunification of the Belarusian people.

In 1921, following the results of the Soviet-Polish war of 1919-1921, the state border crossed the Belarusian land, dividing Belarusians for the next 18 years. In 1939, the people of Belarus became united again and received the opportunity to build a common future.

Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus Mikhail Glushakov and Director of BelNIIDAD Andrei Rybakov congratulated their colleagues on the anniversary of this significant event.

A. Rybakov presented a report in which he spoke about the history of Western Belarus as part of Poland and its reunification with Soviet Belarus.

During the meeting, the employees of the NIA of Belarus and BelNIIDAD were shown the documentary film «Reunification», prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents. The film consists of fragments of newsreels covering the Red Army’s campaign in Western Belarus and the restoration of Soviet power on its territory.
