On holding an information hour «Reunification» at the State Archives in Orsha

On September 17, 2024, as part of the «Archives to School» campaign and events dedicated to National Unity Day, an information hour on the topic of «Reunification» was held with 10th-grade students of the state educational institution «Secondary School No. 21 in Orsha» by the head of the document use department M.A. Nikulina, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the unification of Western Belarus with the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR).

During this event, students learned about the reasons for the division of the territory of our country between the two states, the lives of residents and the policy of Poland towards Western Belarus, as well as an important milestone in the history of our state – the acceptance of Western Belarus into the BSSR and the reunification of the Belarusian people in a single national state.

In addition, schoolchildren were able to familiarize themselves with archival documents on the history of the unification of Western Belarus with the BSSR, placed at the exhibition exposition «Day of National Unity» of the State Archives in Orsha, which were provided by the state institution «National Archives of the Republic of Belarus», as well as with newsreel footage related to the entry of the Red Army units into the territory of Western Belarus and their meeting with local residents, agrarian reforms, elections to the People’s Assembly of Western Belarus, etc., captured in the film «Reunification», prepared by the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents».
