Opening of a reading room in BGAMLI

On July 26, 2024, at the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI), after a planned renovation, a renovated, bright reading room opened its doors.

The director of the institution Elena Aleksandrovna Makarenko held the opening ceremony, greeted everyone who came, and solemnly cut the red ribbon, symbolizing the beginning of the hall’s work.

The BGAMLI reading room provides researchers with the opportunity to access archival information and familiarize themselves with stored materials. Users of the reading room have access to new computerized workstations with Internet access. Thanks to the modernization of the space, display cases with current exhibition projects of the archive-museum are openly available to visitors.

On the opening day of the reading room, a curatorial excursion was held at the exhibition «Sam-us with Eternity», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the people’s writer Vasily Bykov. The leading archivist of BGAMLI Natalya Aleksandrovna Mizon presented documents related to his autobiography, a speech before the Writers’ Union, manuscripts, typewritten letters with handwritten edits, correspondence with colleagues, correspondence that he received from all over the USSR, etc.

Guests were able to learn more about the life and work of Vasil Bykov, and understand his significant contribution to the development of Belarusian literature and culture.

We invite you to visit the reading room of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art!
