Trade union activists of the Zonal State Archive in Molodechno landscaped a memorial site of the Great Patriotic War

On June 22, a mournful date is celebrated in Belarus – the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War. It reminds us of all those who died, were tortured in fascist captivity, and died in the rear from hunger and deprivation. Obelisks testify to the lessons of courage and heroism of those who fell during the war, and the memory is preserved by the descendants of the victors.

On June 21, representatives of the institution «Zonal State Archive in Molodechno», as part of a delegation of the district’s trade union activists, took part in the improvement of the territory where on November 11, 1943, the Nazis, during a punitive operation, burned the village of Sakovshchina along with the residents. Then 12 civilians died in the fire. After the war, the village was never revived. In 1973, a mound was built at the site of the tragedy, on top of which a stele was installed. Sakovshchina is called the sister of Khatyn.

Union volunteers painted the concrete elements of the monument and removed weeds and debris. They honored the victims with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the obelisk.
