BGAMLI employees visited the Honored Cultural Worker of Belarus, labor veteran, participant in the Great Patriotic War Vasily Stepanovich Semenyakov

On June 6, 2024, the head of the department of archives of organizations and formation of the NAF of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter – BGAMLI) Maria Iosifovna Pyshinskaya and leading archivist Natalya Pavlovna Prinko visited and congratulated on behalf of the management and staff of the archive-museum Vasily Stepanovich Semenyakov on his 100th birthday anniversary of his birth and on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

Vasily Stepanovich Semenyakov is an Honored Cultural Worker of Belarus, a labor veteran, and a participant in the Great Patriotic War.

In August 1944, Vasily Stepanovich joined the Red Army and participated in the liberation of Poland, Czechoslovakia and the storming of Berlin. Awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd degree, and medals «For Military Merit», «For Victory over Germany», and «For the Capture of Berlin».

V.S.Semenyakov worked for more than 25 years at the Belarusian Soviet Encyclopedia (since 1980 – «Publishing House named after Petrus Brovka») with famous figures of Belarusian literature Yank Bril, Petrus Brovka, Vasily Bykov, Nil Gilevich, Ivan Shamyakin, etc. During this time he collected a large a collection of interesting and valuable documents, which he donated to the archive-museum in 2018. Among them: biographies, publications, portraits, individual photographs and photographs in groups with famous cultural figures of Belarus; photographs of ancient temples (churches, churches of Minsk and Nesvizh); copies of maps and plans of architectural historical monuments of the 17th-18th centuries, etc.

The meeting took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere, during which V.S.Semenyakov handed over to the archive-museum his memoirs «Stories of How Things Happened» with a dedicatory inscription and sincere wishes for the prosperity of BGAMLI.
