On the holding of a thematic excursion «Genealogy – the science of family history» for students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 8 in Grodno» at the National Historical Archive of Belarus in Grodno, dedicated to International Family Day

On May 16, 2024, at the National Historical Archive of Belarus in Grodno, a thematic excursion «Genealogy – the science of family history» was held for 10th grade students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 8 in Grodno», dedicated to the International Day of the Family, as part of the republican action « Archives-school».

Students were told about the rules of working with archival documents when conducting genealogical research of their kind. Guests were presented with registry books containing records of the birth of Yanka Kupala, the marriage of Eliza Ozheshko, and the death of Napoleon Orda. In the exhibition hall, schoolchildren got acquainted with the family tree of the archive, which contains photos of employees, from the post-war period to the present day.

The attention of visitors was drawn to man’s desire to know his roots, the history of his family. In the archives, students learned about the conditions for storing metric books, and in the laboratory for special document processing they observed the process of restoration of original documents.
