BGAMLI: virtual exhibition «Dance with the Heart» as part of the joint project «Day in History» with the Republic of Tatarstan

On April 29, 2024, as part of the implementation of the joint project «Day in History» with the Republic of Tatarstan, the purpose of which is to exchange documents on significant dates in the history of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Tatarstan, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum prepared a virtual exhibition «Dance with the Heart», dedicated to the International Day dance.

Belarusian dances, being part of world history, make their unique contribution to the world cultural heritage.

«Khoroshki» is a living legend of Belarusians, a famous Belarusian state academic honored choreographic ensemble, which is famous for its vibrant performances, live music and authentic costumes. Their dances are usually a dynamic and energetic procession in which the entire group participates. The ensemble’s programs reflect the rich cultural heritage of Belarus and are a significant part of folk holidays, events and public celebrations

The team was created on the basis of the amateur ensemble of Mogilev «Vyasnyanka». He began his concert activity in 1974 at the Belarusian State Philharmonic with choreographers Valentina Gaeva and Nikolai Dudchenko. Already in 1975, the first tour of the lineup took place in Denmark. In 1977, «Khoroshki» won the First Prize at the All-Union Competition dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution among professional choreographic groups.

By order of the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR dated November 21, 1981 No.180, the ensemble «Khoroshki» exists as an independent creative enterprise and is called the Belarusian folklore and choreographic ensemble «Khoroshki».

According to the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus dated April 15, 1999 No.531, the Belarusian State Choreographic Ensemble «Khoroshki» was awarded the title «Honored».

Almost the entire Soviet Union became the stage for «Khoroshki» – from Kaliningrad to the Far East, from Murmansk to Astrakhan. The team toured extensively in Siberia and Kazakhstan, and gave concerts in Central Asia and the Caucasus. It is also known in the countries of the Middle East – Syria, Jordan, Afghanistan, Libya, UAE, as well as in India, Japan and China. The ensemble continues to successfully tour abroad today.

In addition to the choreography, you should pay attention to the concert costumes of «Khoroshek». They not only add authenticity and beauty to performances, but are also an important element in the transmission of cultural traditions and national identity through dance. The costumes of the group are the personification of historical periods, regional characteristics and customs.

It is important to note that each element of the image often carries a certain meaning, reflecting historical, social or even religious aspects of Belarusian culture. Thus, Belarusian costumes become an integral part of the performances of the Khoroshki ensemble and an important tool for preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Republic of Belarus through dance.

We invite you to enjoy a selection of costumes from the Belarusian State Choreographic Ensemble «Khoroshki»!
