Conducting a lesson for 9th grade students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.37 of Grodno» as part of the «Archives to School» event at the institution «State Archives of the Grodno Region»

On April 15, 2024, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign, the institution «State Archive of the Grodno Region» held a lesson on the topic «The tragedy of the civilian population during the Great Patriotic War» for 9th grade students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.37 of Grodno».

Students were shown documents reflecting the policy of the occupation authorities and the facts of genocide of the population of the Grodno region during the Great Patriotic War: cards of prisoners of war who were in German camps, work certificates of citizens sent to work in Germany, certificates of ghetto prisoners. Also, the children were presented with documents from the regional Commission for the Investigation and Establishment of Crimes and Atrocities of the Nazi Invaders: acts of damage, eyewitness testimony, lists of destroyed citizens and settlements.

The exhibitions of documents on display in the reading room dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War aroused great interest among students: «There was a people’s war. Partisans and underground fighters of the Grodno region», «Not subject to oblivion», «We brought this day closer as best we could..».

At the end of the lesson, schoolchildren were given a sightseeing tour of the archives.
