Conducting an information hour for 9th grade students as part of the «Archives for School» campaign at the «Zonal State Archive in Orsha» institution
April 12, 2024, as part of the republican action «Archives to School» and events dedicated to the Year of Quality, with students of grade 9 «B» of the state educational institution «Secondary School No.21 of Orsha», leading archivist of the department of document use Yu.I.Gryadovka, an information hour was held on the topic «I marked my path with art», dedicated to the amateur artist, poet, and folk theater actor Vladimir Mikhailovich Zhitnov.
The children got acquainted with documents and photographs telling about the life and work of the artist, who glorified the Orsha region with his works, and plunged into the world of beauty of paints and watercolors.
Vladimir Mikhailovich Zhitnov is an integral part of the culture of our city and region. He devoted his entire life to raising the younger generation, advertising and promoting sports and a healthy lifestyle to the masses. He actively participated in the public life of the city. A writer, without whose poetry not a single city event was complete. Vladimir Mikhailovich played in the theater, sang in the choir, collaborated with the Council of Veterans of Orsha, conducted master classes in schools, exhibitions of his works, published books, was engaged in winter swimming and much, much more. It seems that there are no areas left in our city where Vladimir Mikhailovich does not take part.
V.M. Zhitnov wrote more than 3,000 works and held about 100 personal exhibitions. And he gave his watercolor works as souvenirs at any event.
In addition, within the framework of the project «Open Film Archive. We brought this day closer as best we could». The students were shown a newsreel dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Vitebsk region from the Nazi invaders, prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents.
