Commemorative event at the Khatyn memorial complex

On March 22, 1943, near the village of Khatyn, Logoisky district, Minsk region, partisans fired at a fascist convoy and as a result of the attack, a German officer was killed. In response, the punitive forces surrounded the village, drove all the residents into a barn and set it on fire, and those who tried to escape were shot with machine guns and machine guns. As a result, 149 innocent people died, 75 of them children under the age of 16. The village was plundered and burned to the ground, while 5 children and 1 adult were miraculously saved – Joseph Kaminsky (prototype of the sculpture «The Unconquered Man»). The punitive operation was carried out by the 118th police battalion, formed in 1942 in Kyiv from former prisoners of war, as well as units of the SS battalion O. Dirlewanger.

Today, on the day of the 81st anniversary of the destruction of the village of Khatyn, representatives of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, the National Archive, the National Historical Archive as part of the delegation of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus took part in a commemorative event at the Khatyn memorial complex and laid flowers , observed a minute of silence for all innocent victims of Nazism.
