Opening of the exhibition «Mova military illustrations» with the participation of the First Deputy Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice O.A.Ledovskaya

On February 8, 2024, as part of the exhibition project «History and Modernity of Book Graphics», the National Library of Belarus opened the exhibition «Mova War Illustrations», which presented documents from the collections of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by the First Deputy Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus O.A.Ledovskaya.

In her speech, Olga Aleksandrovna noted that the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus contains a rich complex of documents from the period of the Great Patriotic War, a significant part of which is occupied by documents of partisan formations and their governing bodies.

Ledovskaya O.A. drew the attention of the event participants to the contribution of state archives to preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the republican projects «Archives for School», «Young Archivist», which are aimed at the patriotic education of the younger generation.

The exhibition featured original handwritten journals of partisan brigades and detachments, combat leaflets, maps of military operations, drawings in various techniques (graphic, watercolor), illustrations to the stories of partisan brigades from the funds of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus. Themes for inspiration of partisan artists were scenes from everyday life; the heroes of the paintings were comrades in arms.

Combat leaflets and wall newspapers performed propaganda and agitation functions. They reflect various aspects of the combat life and life of the partisans. For researchers, they reveal a wealth of factual material contained in texts and supplemented with visual information.

The exhibition also features art materials, catalogues, illustrated books, museum objects, original graphics and sculpture.

The exhibition is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.
