Press release about the memorial evening dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Leonid Borozna

On February 1, 2024 at 11:00, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art will host a memorial evening dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Leonid Borozna.

The event will focus on the life and work of Leonid Timofeevich Borozna (1928/29 – 1972), an outstanding Belarusian artist, ethnographer and public figure.

Rygor Borodulin wrote: «Barozna is a rare surname. Bread production, farming. Dear soul of the farmer. Like Skorina…..». The People’s Poet of Belarus compared Borozna with Skaryna. Indeed, over the 44 years of his life, the artist did a lot to preserve Belarusian culture: based on the material collected during expeditions, he prepared for printing albums of drawings «Belarusian Folk Arnament Palessya» (1957), «Belarusian Folk Arnament» (1958), «Arnament Grodzenshchyna» (1960 ); developed stage costumes for the ensemble «Pesnyary» and for more than 15 amateur folk groups (for his contribution to the development of amateur performances he was awarded a diploma of the Supreme Council of the BSSR (1963); systematized and prepared for printing (together with M. Basalyga) the publication «Engravings of Francis Skorina» (1972), etc.

At the memorial evening, Leonid Borozny’s daughters, his artist friends and acquaintances will perform (including Dmitry Ivchenko, the author of the documentary film «Lyavon Barazna… Addanae Sertsa» (2022). The showcase exhibition will feature the artist’s drawings, his photographs, etc.
