On November 11, 2023, at the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive), as part of the information day, a discussion platform was held to discuss the updated Concept of National Security of the Republic of Belarus.
A report on the draft Concept and the significance of this document for ensuring the sustainable development of the country was made by the director of the regional archive A.N.Suschevich.
– The National Security Concept is a unique document that concerns all the most important spheres of life of the state and citizens of the Republic of Belarus. During its development, the experience of NATO, the USA, Great Britain, Germany, and France was taken into account. The draft Concept reflects the transformation of the entire spectrum of modern threats and defines common approaches to the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of ensuring national security. Strategic national interests have been identified. The project was approved by the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus and is currently undergoing public discussion with the involvement of representatives of the scientific and expert community. The updated Concept identifies 9 spheres of national security: political, economic, scientific and technological, social, demographic, information, military, environmental, and also new – biological. Its appearance is explained, for example, by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and its impact on politics and economics, noted the director of the archive.
It was also noted that the Republic of Belarus builds its concept of national security, protecting itself from threats without threatening anyone. The document contains significant innovative potential. The Concept clarifies the goals, objectives and principles of ensuring national security, and elaborates the main directions for neutralizing internal sources of threats and protecting against external threats to national security. The algorithm for the functioning of the national security system within the framework of an anti-crisis response is specified. It can be said without exaggeration that this is a Development Concept that enshrines one of the fundamental principles – security through development.
During the discussion, Andrei Nikolaevich gave comprehensive answers to all the questions asked, and also informed the State Agencies staff that this project, approved by the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, was posted on the National Legal Portal in order to inform the population and widely cover the main provisions of the document in the information space.
The regional archive staff unanimously supported the updated draft of the National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus.
