On the participation of the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents» in the Festival of Science

On September 2, 2023, employees of the Belarusian State Archive of Cinema and Photo Documents (hereinafter – BGAKFFD) took part in the Science Festival event, which was held in the format of an intellectual and entertainment program in the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus ( hereinafter – NAS RB). The festival has been held since 2018, and by now it has managed to become one of the largest platforms for the popularization of science. Higher educational institutions, museums, archives, laboratories, research institutes, foreign research, scientific production and other organizations take part in it. The organizers of the festival make sure that the festival is full of bright formats and deep meanings, so that there are enough interesting activities for every age and every turn of mind in the program.

The BGAKFFD exposition presented in the Botanical Garden was devoted to the history of the country through the prism of photographic and film documents. Documents covering the period from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century were placed at the stand “Photographic documents of the early period from the funds of the BGAKFFD”. Albums of photographic documents were presented by the collections of E. Tomashevskaya-Radziwill, I. Tagrin, V. Kaleda, as well as a special selection of the “Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR”

Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with the types of document carriers. Various models of cameras presented at the exposition became an excellent evidence of the development of photography technology in the second half of the last century.

The novelty of the BGAKFFD exposition, the Yel photocopier, which was used to reshoot documents for the purpose of their subsequent replication, aroused particular interest among the guests of the festival.

The festival found a lively response among the residents of Minsk, guests of the capital and all those interested in science and was remembered for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
