August 23 – Day of State Statistics Workers

In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated March 26, 1998 No. 157 “On public holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus”, a professional holiday is celebrated annually on August 23 – Day of State Statistics Workers

Information about the size and composition of the population, the main indicators of the development of the state and society, the state of the environment are of major economic, social, political and scientific importance.

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presents a wide range of documents reflecting the history of the formation and development of state statistics bodies in our country from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. These include management documentation (decrees, orders, circulars, instructions, plans, etc.), statistical reports, collections, information on the main indicators of economic development, materials on the conduct and development of the results of population censuses (personal survey sheets of the population, own statements, settled lists of householders, checklists, lists of settlements, campaign posters). In addition, the archive stores documentary sources on school, agricultural and other specialized censuses.

These documents reflect not only the processes of collecting demographic, social and economic information, but are also a valuable source for studying family history and finding information about their ancestors.
