On the day of the liberation of Grodno from the Nazi invaders, employees of the State Archives of the Grodno region visited the memorial complex «Вайсковыя магілкі»

On July 16, 2023, our city of Grodno celebrated the 79th anniversary of the liberation from the Nazi invaders.

This day is inscribed in the history of the Neman region in red letters as a memory of a great event – liberation from fascism, cruelty, grief, pain and fear. On this day, citizens visit sacred places to honor the memory of the selfless courage of the fallen heroes who gave us the future, life and freedom.

On the Day of the liberation of the city of Grodno from the Nazi invaders, employees of the State Archive of the Grodno region visited the military cemetery on Belusha Street, where they laid flowers at the memorial stele to the heroes, most of whom died during the liberation of Grodno, at the grave of the unknown soldier, at the sculptural composition “Always on the alert” .

The military cemetery on Belusha Street was established in 1888, and is currently one of the oldest cemeteries in the city of Grodno. On the territory of the cemetery there is a memorial to the defenders of Grodno – on the white plates of the mass grave are the names of soldiers and officers who died for the liberation of Grodno during the Great Patriotic War. The Alley of Heroes has been created, whose names are engraved in gold letters on red granite slabs. Also at the military cemetery there is a monument “Grieving Woman and a Suvorovite” and a monument to a warrior with a wreath dedicated to the heroes who died in the battles for the independence of our Motherland, the grave of an unknown Soviet soldier, the memorial “Always on the alert”, a complex of fraternal and individual graves, established in honor of the Soviet soldiers who died in the fight against the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War.

In November 2021, a bust monument was erected to A.I., a native of the city of Grodno. Antonov, who participated in the development of almost all significant operations of the Soviet troops in the Great Patriotic War since December 1942, including the Belarusian strategic offensive operation Bagration.
