JULY, 3 – Republic Day

On June 29, 2023, a solemn event dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus was held at the central office of the State Forensic Examination Committee. As part of this event, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus prepared a thematic exhibition: «Let generations remember».

Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is the main holiday of the Belarusian statehood, which is celebrated annually on July 3. On this day in 1944, the Red Army liberated Minsk. Residents of Minsk met their liberators with flowers, music played in the streets. And although the city was wounded, and many of its houses were shrouded in flames, joy and happiness shone on the faces of Minsk residents. For the skillful and heroic actions shown during the Minsk operation of 1944, 52 Soviet military formations and units were awarded the honorary title «Minsk».

The decision to celebrate Independence Day on July 3, the day of the liberation of the capital of Belarus from German occupation, was made during the republican referendum in 1996 and approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus of December 11, 1996 No. 1 «On the establishment of the state holiday of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus». This holiday is revered by all Belarusians as a memory of those who defended the independence of their Motherland on the battlefields. This day unites everyone who remembers the history of their country, who makes a daily contribution to the prosperity of their native land with their work and talent.

July 3 is a historically significant date in the fate of the country, which has become a symbol of freedom and peace for its citizens. Celebrations are held throughout the country on this day. Residents with the whole family go to the squares, to squares, to concert venues and outreach outlets, in general, they feel like citizens of a single, strong and independent country that looks confidently into the future.

The National Archives presents unique documents at the exhibition: orders of the Central Headquarters of the Partisan Movement (TSSHPD) and the Belarusian Headquarters of the Partisan Movement (BShPD), maps, diagrams, cipher telegrams, reports, reports of partisan brigades and detachments on the combat operations carried out, orders of the command, which reflect the activities on planning and conducting the operation to liberate Minsk, examples of mass heroism shown in these battles, documents on the conduct of the partisan parade, on the work of evacuation hospitals and on the progress and results of demining enterprises of the BSSR.

The exhibition aroused wide interest among the participants of the event. Most of the documents were shown for the first time.
