Sharing experience in document digitization

Today, more than ever, the issue of digital transformation of various spheres of public life is relevant. In order to achieve the set goals, the institutions are faced with the task of developing a “road map” before the start of large-scale projects for the digitalization of certain areas of their activities. It is much easier to solve this problem by asking for advice from those who already have positive experience in implementing similar projects.

That is why the Belarusian Chamber of Notaries turned to the state institution “The Central Laboratory for the Preservation of Documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus” with a request to share their experience in digitizing documents.

To this end, on June 28, 2023, a delegation of employees of notarial archives, headed by the chairman of the Belarusian Notarial Chamber, Natalya Vladimirovna Borisenko, visited the laboratory and got acquainted with all stages of the technological process of microbiological research, disinfection, restoration, binding, microfilming and digitization of archival documents.

The guests were impressed by the complexity of the work performed during a visual demonstration of the process of restoring an archival document with the replacement of the destroyed part of the sheet and made sure that the work to restore the original form of an archival document requires painstaking and scrupulous attitude, great experience and responsibility of unique specialists working in the laboratory.

After the introductory tour, a seminar was held in the format of a round table, at which various aspects of the organization of the technological process of digitizing documents on paper were considered.

At the end of the visit, an agreement was reached on the possibility of holding similar meetings in the future, in order to consider highly specialized issues related to the digitization of documents.
