About conducting a tour of the National Archives on Children’s Day
International Children’s Day is one of the oldest international holidays.
In 1949, at a meeting of the International Democratic Federation of Women, a question was raised due to the consequences of the Second World War. The issue of fertility and protection of children’s rights was acute. Then an initiative about the need for such a holiday was put forward. Subsequently, it was supported by the UN. Since 1950, this holiday has been celebrated in more than 30 countries. There is a difference: not everywhere is June 1. In some countries it is November 20. It is timed to the date when the Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. In our country, June 1 is a symbolic date precisely because it coincides with the beginning of children’s holidays.
On June 1, 2023, children and grandchildren of archive workers visited the National Archives. They familiarized themselves with the work of the archive, visited the archive storage of documents and microfilms, learned how the repair and restoration of archive documents takes place, and even digitized the pages of the archive document. The young guests saw the original archive documents of the Great Patriotic War period, standards of the State symbols of the Republic of Belarus.
This day was not without surprises and gifts. All participants of the excursion were presented with commemorative gifts from the director of the archive. Also on this day, the results of the «Creative Family» competition, which was organized by the primary organization of the «Belarusian Women’s Union» OO for the Day of the Family, were summarized. All young participants of this competition were awarded with gifts from the primary trade union organization of the archive.
At the end of the excursion, the director of the archive, A.K.Demyanjuk, received all the participants of the event in his office. He congratulated the children on the holiday, on the beginning of the long school holidays, and thanked them for participating in creative competitions. A commemorative photo was taken in the director’s chair, and, of course, everyone received sweet treats.
