On the issue of training unique specialists
One of the most important tasks in ensuring the smooth and rhythmic activity of any organization is the work to strengthen human resources. This is of particular importance in relation to archivists-restorers, since training in this specialty is not carried out in any educational institution in the country and they become unique specialists in the workplace through the mentoring of experienced colleagues.
However, not every candidate is able to master the skills of an archivist-restorer in a highly professional manner, and therefore one has to look for suitable specialists in those areas of activity that are somehow related to the restoration of paper-based archival documents. One of these areas is the printing industry, where specialists work with paper, perform binding work, and carry out computer processing of graphic files.
All this was the reason for the working meeting of the leadership of the state institution “Central Laboratory for the Preservation of Documents of the National Archival Fund of the Republic of Belarus” held on May 17, 2023 on the basis of the laboratory with the director of the educational institution “Minsk State College of Printing named after V.Z .Khoruzhey” Simonenko Alexander Sergeevich and his deputies – for educational and production work Selistrovskaya Valentina Leonidovna and for educational work Podgayskaya Varvara Pavlovna.
During the working meeting, the director of the laboratory V.L. Kluyko introduced the guests to the activities of the laboratory and its importance in the preservation of historical heritage. Also, attention was paid to such an issue as the training of archivists-restorers.
The leadership of the college was convinced of the uniqueness of the profession of an archivist-restorer with their own eyes, having familiarized themselves with all the stages of the technological process of microbiological research, disinfection, restoration, binding, microfilming and digitization of archival documents.
Based on the results of the working meeting, the heads of the institutions reached an agreement on mutually beneficial cooperation in terms of personnel training, as well as joint events within the framework of the republican action “Archives for School”, held in accordance with the republican action plan for holding the Year of Peace and Creation in 2023.
