The resumption of the activities of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the Mogilev region after the liberation from the Nazi occupation

May 8 is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. The State Archives of the Mogilev Region institution presents to your attention a copy of the decision of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee dated June 17, 1944 «On the organization of the work of the sanitary-epidemic detachment of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in the territory of the Mogilev Region, liberated from German occupation».

The organization resumed its activities at a time when the liberation of the region from occupation had not yet been completed. The first steps were the formation of sanitary-epidemic detachments to combat infectious diseases in the liberated areas. Their work included carrying out preventive vaccinations for the population, sanitizing, cleaning settlements and water sources.

The participation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent was of considerable importance in overcoming the consequences of wartime and the speedy transition to civilian life.
