«Belarus remembers. Remembers everyone»
What makes a nation great? How is her heroism, feat, courage measured? Whom do descendants and enemies remember, who are proud of and cited as an example by contemporaries? Those who, not obeying the circumstances, continue the struggle and thereby change the future of their people.
On October 26, 1941, underground workers Nikolai Demidenko, Olga Shcherbatsevich, Nadezhda and Piotr Yanushkevichi were executed in the Alexander Square in Minsk. On May 7, 1942, the secretary of the Minsk underground city committee of the CP (b) B, Isai Kazinets, and 28 underground members were hanged in the same place. Executions dragged on, Minsk fought, not reconciled to the occupation, opposing someone else’s will. 1100 days of struggle. Until the release.
Heroic deaths were not forgotten, Ivan Novikov’s book «Roads crossed in Minsk», the television series «Ruins are shooting …», the publication of Nikolai Matukovsky «1100 days» in the newspaper «Izvestia» told about them. The death and feat of specific people gave heroism to every Minsker, made the city a symbol of the Victory. On June 26, 1974, by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Minsk received the honorary title of «Hero City».
On May 3, 2023, employees of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art came to the memorial sign in Alexander Square to lay flowers and remember those who, by their death, saved the lives of others, proved with their heroism that Belarusians are a brave and unconquered people.
