April 22 – a day in the history of the archive industry

On April 22, 1992, the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus adopted Resolution No. 224, according to which the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus was organized on the basis of the Central State Historical Archive of the Republic of Belarus and the former Central Party Archive of the CPB. The National Archives did not include the Central State Archive of the October Revolution and Socialist Construction of the Republic of Belarus, which was soon transformed into the Belarusian State Archive. On June 12, 1995, the network of republican archival institutions was reorganized: on the basis of a set of documents of the late XIV – early XX century, the National Historical Archive of Belarus was organized, and a set of documents of the former Central Party Archive of the CPB was transferred to the Belarusian State Archive with its reorganization into the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus.

In addition to the organization of the National Archives, a resolution of April 22, 1992 recommended the creation of branches of regional state archives on the basis of the regional party archives of the Communist Party of Belarus, and the Central State Archive of Film and Photo Documents of the Republic of Belarus was to receive free positives of films made according to republican social and creative orders, and negatives of photographs, made in the media at the expense of public funds.

Employees of the department of information retrieval systems of the State Institution «National Archives of the Republic of Belarus» revealed the original of an important document for the history of archiving in Belarus in the process of thematic development of fund No. 7 of the «Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus». An electronic catalog card was compiled for the resolution, which has already replenished the systematic catalog and is available to users of the archive’s reading room.
