Documentary exhibition «Law. Law. Justice» to the 100th anniversary of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus

On April 14, 2023, a documentary exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus opened at the Palace of the Republic.

The Supreme Court of the Byelorussian SSR was established in accordance with the Regulations on the judiciary, adopted by the II session of the CEC of the BSSR of the fourth convocation on March 30, 1923 and put into effect on April 15, 1923. Prokop Molokovich, People’s Commissar of Internal Affairs of the BSSR, also became the first chairman of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court consisted of the Plenum, the Presidium, cassation boards for criminal and civil cases.

The history of the Supreme Court of Belarus is inextricably linked with the general history of the development of the Belarusian statehood and the entire national justice, since it was the highest judicial body of our country that made a significant contribution to the formation of the judicial system and the formation of the judicial branch of state power.
The Supreme Court heads the system of courts of general jurisdiction and is the highest judicial body that administers justice through civil, criminal and other forms of legal proceedings provided for by law.

The recent history of the Supreme Court is a period of systemic transformations, the formation of the principles of justice, the renewal of the regulatory legal framework and the creation of a national model of the judicial power of the Belarusian state. During this most difficult period, the Supreme Court not only assumed the role of a leader in judicial reform, but also managed to take a worthy place in the legal and political system of the Republic of Belarus.

The funds of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus contain original documentary materials that reflect the history of the Supreme Court. The Regulations on the judiciary of the BSSR, information on the powers, staff and personnel of the Supreme Court, samples of official seals and stamps, documents on the appointment of chairmen of the Supreme Court, decrees on awards and other documents are of the greatest scientific importance and interest. Numerous guests at the solemn event in the Palace of the Republic had a chance to get acquainted with these unique documents of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.
