Transformation of the archival department of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee
Previously, the archival service of the BSSR was part of the People’s Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD), since March 1946, the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In March 1960, the Archive Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the BSSR was removed from the subordination of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and subordinated to the Council of Ministers of the BSSR.
On the basis of the resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and the Council of Ministers of the BSSR dated March 1, 1960 No. 110-11, an archive department of the regional executive committee was created at the local level under each regional executive committee.
In accordance with the decision of the executive committee of the Mogilev Regional Council of Workers’ Deputies “On the transformation of the archive department of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee” dated April 6, 1960 No. 259, an archive department was created under the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
Raisa Abramovna Okuneva, a 23-year-old graduate of the Moscow Institute of History and Archives, was appointed the first head of the archival department of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee.
The Archives and Records Department of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee existed until December 30, 2006, when it became part of the Main Department of Justice of the Oblast Executive Committee.
