Translation of the Pinsk Regional Theater in Mogilev

March 27 is World Theater Day, for this professional holiday the institution “State Archive of the Mogilev Region” presents the Order of the Minister of Culture of the BSSR G. Kiselyov No. 317 dated April 23, 1954 “On the transfer of the Pinsk Regional Theater to Mogilev”.

With this, a full-fledged revival of the professional theater in Mogilev began. The transfer of the theater group from Pinsk became possible as a result of the consolidation of regions in the BSSR and the liquidation, among others, of the Pinsk region.

Until May 4, the theater was in Pinsk, then went on a short tour to Brest. From May 20 to June 1, 1954, the theater presented the “farewell decade” on the Pinsk stage – the best performances from its repertoire. And on June 1, the City Council organized a solemn “Evening with the Spectators” for the theater, which was sold out.

After the transfer, the theater changed its name to “Mogilev Regional Belarusian Drama Theatre”. It was headed by the former director Arkady Sergeevich Rossikov, who came from Pinsk with the troupe. The main director was the representative of the Leningrad theater school V.D. Jesters.

On October 6, 1954, the theater arrived in Mogilev, and on October 29, the play “Yaroslav the Wise” based on the historical play by I. Kocherga opened its first theatrical season on the Mogilev stage. Also, performances were presented to the audience that were successfully staged on the Pinsk stage: the tragedy of M.Yu. Lermontov “The Spaniards”, “Soviet vaudeville” Ts. Solodar “In the Lilac Garden”, historical and revolutionary play by A. Korneichuk “Death of the Squadron”. At the same time, the artistic council of the theater was actively working on the formation of a new repertoire. First of all, it was supposed to start staging performances based on plays by Belarusian authors, while retaining performances based on classical works.

Thus began a new stage in the history of the Mogilev Drama Theatre. The stage of the revival of creative life and the restoration of theatrical traditions. The Mogilev audience warmly welcomed the new team, willingly attending performances.
