Deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus visited the National Historical Archive of Belarus
On March 23, 2023, as part of the events of the Year of Peace and Creation declared in the Republic of Belarus, the National Historical Archive of Belarus was visited by deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus – members of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, Ethnic Relations and the Mass Media. The group of Belarusian parliamentarians included: chairman of the commission Gennady Bronislavovich, Davydko, deputy chairmen Liliya Stanislavovna Ananich and Valentina Vitalievna Razhanets, deputies Lyudmila Yevgenyevna Zdorikova and Natalya Eduardovna Tarasenko, as well as an employee of the department of the Permanent Commission Marina Nikolaevna Mikhasenok. The main purpose of the visit of people’s deputies to the NIA of Belarus was to get acquainted with the documents of different eras of the history of Belarus, covering the issue of preserving interfaith peace in the Belarusian lands and peaceful coexistence of different ethnic groups in this territory.
As part of the event, Deputy Director of the NEA of Belarus M.D. Makarov told the guests about the history and funds of the institution. Leading Researcher of the Department of Use and Information V.N. Denisov conducted a tour of the archives for the deputies, where he acquainted them with a number of unique documents, as well as samples of sources on genealogy stored in the NIA of Belarus.
After that, the deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly allocated time for independent work with documents of the 17th – early 20th centuries. on the subject of preserving inter-confessional peace, which were presented by the employees of the NIA of Belarus, including: acts of cities on the Magdeburg law, the magistrates of which were built on the principle of confessional dualism; acts of interfaith foundations or donations of funds and property by a person of one religion to cult objects of another; metrical records of the ancestors of the Orthodox saint Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky), who were Catholics; Materials of noble deputy assemblies and Minsk gymnasiums of the 19th – early 20th centuries. At the same time, the guests were actively advised by the leading researcher of the department of research and publication activities E.S. Glinsky.
The presented documents aroused great interest among the deputies, who made numerous extracts and asked the archivists a number of questions. In parting, the guests received scientific publications from the archive as a gift.
Within the framework of the Year of Peace and Creation, the joint work of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and the Mass Media of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the NIA of Belarus will continue.
