On the opening of a temporary exposition at the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood dedicated to the Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus

On March 13, 2023, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, together with the Museum of Modern Belarusian Statehood, opened a temporary exhibition «The Constitution is the main document of the country», timed to coincide with the Constitution Day of the Republic of Belarus.

2022 was a landmark year for our country: on February 27, a republican referendum was held on the issue of introducing amendments and additions to the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus. 82.86% of citizens voted for the adoption of a decision on the issue submitted to the referendum, that is, the majority of citizens included in the voting lists.

The constitution is the fundamental law of the state. Among the main principles that permeate the norms of the Constitution are: the rule of law, the guarantee and observance of human and civil rights, the democratic procedure for the formation of government bodies. The Constitution embodies the historical experience of the formation of the Belarusian statehood. It is based on the inalienable sovereign right of the Belarusian people to independently determine their own destiny and be a full-fledged subject of the world community.

The exhibition «The Constitution – the main document of the country» reflects the chronology of the formation of the constitutional foundations in Belarus, tells about the preparation and adoption of the Constitution of 1994, amendments and additions to it in connection with the rapidly changing political, socio-economic and cultural realities.

In the exposition, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presented the original copy of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the protocol of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for elections and holding republican referendums with the results of voting on each issue and other documents. Also at the exhibition you can get acquainted with printed publications from the collection of the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus and materials from the funds of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus. The exhibition reveals in detail the main provisions of the current Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, its role and place in the state system of the country.
