On the visit by students of grades 5-9 to the State Educational Institution «Demidovichi Educational and Pedagogical Complex Kindergarten – Basic School» of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents

On November 3, 2022, as part of the Year of Historical Memory and the 100th anniversary of the archival service of Belarus, the BGAKFFD was visited by students of grades 5-9 of the State Educational Institution «Demidovichi Educational and Pedagogical Complex Kindergarten – Basic School».

The guests were given a tour of the archives. In the course of the guide’s story, the schoolchildren got acquainted with unique audiovisual documents from the archive funds, restoration and preventive measures to ensure their safety, and the capabilities of the BGAKFFD scientific reference apparatus. The guests were especially interested in the story about the digitization of archival documents with the help of modern scanning equipment. The most interesting moment was the demonstration of the work of the film camera, personally assembled by the head of the document digitization department, A.S. Tyukhai. After the tour, the guests were invited to the cinema hall of the archive to watch the film «Retribution», dedicated to the trial in Baranovichi of collaborators in 1946.

Many questions during the tour were related to the profession of an archivist. The guys were interested in what professions are needed in the archive. A detailed list of specialties: archivists, clerks, historians, sound engineers, designers – surprised the participants of the tour, but at the same time gave reason for reflection on the future working specialty.
