Participation of the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents in the celebration of Mother’s Day

As part of the Year of Historical Memory and the action «Archives for School», as well as to mark the celebration of Mother’s Day, the Belarusian State Archive of Film and Photo Documents (hereinafter – BGAKFFD) hosted the event «To Mom’s Work».

For the employees of the archive, the morning of October 14 began with a pleasant surprise: a basket with apples from the BGAKFFD garden was waiting for them in the hall. A little later, unusual guests gathered in the archive. Children and grandchildren of BGAKFFD workers of various ages: from 4 to 15 years old, visited the archive to learn more about the profession of their mothers and grandmothers. To do this, an introductory tour of the archive was organized for the children, during which the kids literally touched the work of an archivist with their hands. Document carriers, photo albums, film screening tables, a cameraman’s room – nothing in the archive was left without the attention of sons and daughters. Living in contact with the work of their mothers and grandmothers, the children understood the complexity and uniqueness of the profession of an archivist.

Separately, the importance of this difficult painstaking work, which requires high professionalism, was emphasized in his welcoming speech by the director of the BGAKFFD Andrey Nikolayevich Gonchar. On Mother’s Day, the archive turned out to be unusually decorated: the area near the entrance was full of children’s chalk drawings. Multi-colored cats and hares jumped on the asphalt, flowers bloomed, and the most important word – «mother» – was repeated many times. The little spectators were also impressed by the animated film «Mouse», demonstrated in the cinema hall. The little fidget, who ran away from her mother and faced many dangers, nevertheless realized that her mother would always help and protect. And the crown of the holiday was a tea party in the buffet.
