The 5th Summer School for Young Archivists of the CIS Countries took place on 15-17 June 2022

The 5th Summer School for Young Archivists of the CIS Countries took place on 15-17 June, 2022. This year, archivists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Uzbekistan were joined by colleagues from China and Mongolia – more than 350 listeners.

The organizers of the 5th Summer School were the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian State University for the Humanities and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The main topic of this year’s Summer School was the changing of national archival legislation in the conditions of digital transformation. The event was held in a mixed format. Representatives of the Belarusian state archives, BelNIIDAD, BelNITsED participated in the Summer School in the online format.

The lecturers were leading scholars, practicing archivists and representatives of the IT industry from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Russia, China, Uzbekistan, and South Korea. On behalf of our country, A. E. Rybakov, Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (BelNIIDAD) gave a lecture on “Normative legal regulation for creation, circulation and storage of electronic documents in the Republic of Belarus”.

The participants noted the particular importance of the topic in the era of digital transformation of society. The archivists were able to learn about the experience of different countries in the field of legal regulation of the processes of creation and circulation of electronic documents, their transfer for storage in the archives of organizations and state archives, trends in the development of modern information technologies that can be applied in the archive business. Much attention was paid to the issues of digitization of documents stored in archives on traditional media.

The participation of young archivists in the 5th Summer School is confirmed by special certificates signed by the Head of the Archives of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aliya Mustafina, Head of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, and Head of the Russian State University for the Humanities Yefim Pivovar.
