The State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region took part in the dialogue platform “They Survived… Prisoners of Concentration Camps”
On 11 April 2022, on the International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps, a dialogue platform “They Survived… Prisoners of Concentration Camps” was held at the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, organized by the Main Department of Justice of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, the prosecution authorities of the city of Gomel and Gomel region, and the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University.
The speakers of the discussion were: Yury Bulynko, Prosecutor of Gomel; Alexander Shinkarev, Deputy Prosecutor of Gomel District; Natalya Abramova, Director of the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region; Yury Pankov, researcher of the department of archeology and protection of historical-cultural heritage at the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble Museum; Stanislav Cherepko, Dean of the Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications of the F. Skaryna Gomel State University, PhD in History, Associate Professor.
Opening the meeting, Alexander Shinkarev and Yury Pankov gave the participants a tour of the exhibition hall of the university with a photo-documentary exhibition “Farewell, people…” dedicated to the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War.
Director of the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region Natalya Abramova read out excerpts from the documents revealed and kept in the archive. The recollections of General P. I. Batov describe an episode of the liberation of prisoners of the Ozarichi camp. Besides, the memories of former young prisoners and eyewitness accounts were presented.
Participants of the dialogue platform were shown video clips with the memories of concentration camp prisoners, which left no one indifferent.
At the end of the event, Stanislav Cherepko, Dean of the Faculty of History and Intercultural Communications of the Skorina Gomel State University, noted that such events are designed to contribute to the preservation of the historical continuity of generations: to foster a caring attitude to the historical past and present, to form the spiritual and moral qualities of the younger generation.
