Working meeting between Deputy Director of the Archives Department A. E. Tsvetkov and Head of Educational and Ideological Work of the National Institute of Education N. K. Katovich on enhancing cooperation in the framework of the “Archives for School” campaign
On 12 April 2022, at the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus a working meeting was held between A. E. Tsvetkov, Deputy Director of the Department, and N. K. Katovich, Head of Educational and Ideological Work of the National Institute of Education of the Ministry of Education of Belarus.
A. E. Tsvetkov noted that the state archives of Belarus have accumulated rich practical experience of cooperation with educational institutions in various forms of work with young people. These productive practices were taken into account when the national campaign “Archives for School” was launched in 2022.
During the campaign, the state archival institutions in cooperation with educational institutions (general secondary, supplementary, vocational, specialized secondary and higher education) organize events aimed at informational education and patriotic upbringing of students on the basis of the materials of the National Archival Fonds of the Republic of Belarus.
Employees of the state archival institutions organize free of charge guided tours, thematic lectures, film lectures and orientation classes as part of the campaign. All the events aim to inform the students about the key events and processes in the history of Belarus and the region, the basic stages in the formation and development of the Belarusian statehood, the official heraldic symbols of the Republic of Belarus, the composition of the National Archival Fonds of the Republic of Belarus, the volumes and types of documents held in the archival institutions and the specifics of archival work.
N. K. Katovich emphasized the exceptional value of materials stored in the state archives as objective evidence of the past of the Belarusian people and state, and also pointed out the importance of involving these documents into educational processes for enlightening and patriotic education of the younger generation.
During the discussion it was decided that the National Institute of Education would provide organizational and methodological assistance to the Department in implementing the “Archives for School” campaign, and the key areas for further interaction were outlined.
