Employees of the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation on the eve of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus visited the presentation of the project “Smolensk Fortress in Artifacts of Libraries and Archives of the Union State”

The year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. On the eve of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus, the State Museum “Smolensk Fortress” held a presentation of the project “Smolensk Fortress in Artifacts of Libraries and Archives of the Union State”.

As a result of the project, rare and unique drawings, written sources revealing the pages of history of the largest brick fortress in the world – the Smolensk fortress wall, which is a cultural and historical symbol of the Union State, as well as materials from the archival collections of scientists who researched the fortress were presented to a wide audience.

The presentation of the project took place on 28 March 2022 at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture (15A Revolutsionnaya Street, Minsk). The event was attended by employees of the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

The participants were greeted by E. F. Krustkaln, Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo (the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation) in the Republic of Belarus, S. A. Pilyak, Director of the Smolensk Fortress State Museum and A. M. Zapartyko, Director of the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

The following reports aroused keen interest: “The Smolensk fortress as a unique heritage of the Union State” (by S. A. Pilyak, Director of the Smolensk Fortress State Museum, candidate of architecture, advisor of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences), “Russian and Belarusian researchers of the Smolensk Fortress” (by D. V. Valuyev, senior researcher of the Smolensk Fortress State Museum, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor) and Project “The Smolensk Fortress in the artifacts of libraries and archives of the Union State” (by O. V. Kornilov, acting head curator of collections of the Smolensk Fortress State Museum, candidate of historical sciences).
