New forms of the Archives for School campaign (based on the documents of the State Archives of Public Associations of Gomel Region)
On February 21, 2022, the State Archives of Public Associations of Gomel Region together with the Gomel City Centre for Additional Education of Children and Youth held a meeting with the 6th and 11th grade students at Gomel secondary school No. 3 named after D. M. Penyazkov (93 Barykina St.).
A lesson of historical memory on the topic “The tragedy of the Great Patriotic War in the fate of the Belarusian people” was held within the framework of the “Archives for School” campaign.
The event was opened by Ludmila Priskoka, head of the tourism and local history department of the Gomel City Center for Additional Education of Children and Youth.
During the meeting, Natalya Bachura, head of the information, publication and use of documents department, showed a presentation “A sorrow starting day of the war”.
Aleksey Kochubey, archivist of the information, publication and use of documents department, read fragments of memories from the diaries of the participants of the Great Patriotic War.
Showing a video about the Hero of the Soviet Union D. N. Penyazkov was accompanied by the transfer of copies of identified documents from the state archives to the school museum.
The pupils were also shown photographs from 1943-1944 on the subject “The liberation of the town of Gomel”.
School No. 3 in Gomel is situated in the street named after the Hero of the Soviet Union Yemelyan Barykin. In this connection, the archive director Natalia Abramova donated to the school museum copies of Barykin’s personal file from the pre-war period.
During the event, the students were informed about the opening of the exhibition “Goodbye, People… Facts about Nazi atrocities in occupied Gomel”. The archivists showed a special report from the site of the excavation of the mass war grave in the Chyonki forest. They also informed the school administration and students about the competition of research works on the historical events of the Gomel region “Young Archivist”.
At the end of the meeting, the school director Nina Storozhenko conducted a tour of the school museum for the employees of the state archive.
