The Belarusian Cinema and Photo Archives took part in the International Scientific Conference

On September 23, 2021, the International scientific conference “The Agriculture of Belarus through the Prism of Scientific Research (19th – early 21st centuries)” took place in the Lupinovich Belarusian Agricultural Library in Minsk. It was organized by the Lupinovich Belarusian Agricultural Library together with the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The event was attended by representatives of Belarus, Israel and Ukraine.

The leading archivists of the Department for Documents and Information Use at the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings (BGAKFFD), Mikhail Garelik and Elena Tretiak, made reports and showed photo and video presentations at the scientific conference. The section “Development of Agricultural Science in Belarus in Biographies” featured the following presentations: “Life and Scientific Activity of Pyotr Ivanovich Alsmik” based on materials from BGAKFFD (M.V. Garelik), “Life and Scientific Activity of V.F. Kuprevich in Audiovisual Documents of BGAKFFD” (E.I. Tretiak).

The event included a presentation of the collection of reports “Agriculture in Belarus through the Prism of Scientific Research (19th – early 21st centuries)”, containing the materials of the BGAKFFD archive workers.

The materials of the collection may be of interest to historians, specialists working in the fields of science, education, agriculture, information and library industries, scholars and researchers, teachers, postgraduates, undergraduates and students, as well as anyone interested in history.

The library presents the BGAKFFD exposition dedicated to the history of science in photography. The stand displays photographic documents from the BGAKFFD collections covering the time period from the 1870s to the present day, related to the history of science and the city of Minsk. The participants of the conference could see what types of media are used to store photographic documents in the archive collections. Various models of photo cameras and film development equipment presented at the exposition have become an excellent evidence of technological developments in the photography in the second half of the last century.
