The State Archives of Grodno Region published a collection of documents “The Orthodox Church on the Territory of Grodno Region (1944-1991): Documents and Materials”

The State Archives of Grodno Region published a collection of documents “The Orthodox Church on the Territory of Grodno Region (1944-1991): Documents and Materials”.

The book includes 61 documents available from the State Archives of Grodno Region. The documents are systematized by their topic in three sections and in chronological order. Most of them are published for the first time.

The presented documents characterize the state of Orthodox parishes in the Grodno region, allow to analyze the tendency of closing Orthodox churches and liquidation of church communities, reveal parish life through the prism of Soviet atheism.

The documents published in the collection make it possible to trace the life of the Orthodox Church in the Grodno region in the second half of the Twentieth Century, and the direction of the Soviet state in relation to this.

The collection is intended to popularize archival documents of the State Archives of Grodno Region.
