Events marking 90 Years of the Federal Archival Service of Russia took place in Moscow on 3-6 June 2008

The events marking 90 Years of the Federal Archival Service of Russia took place in Moscow on 3-6 June 2008. These included the 9th General EURASICA Conference of the International Council on Archives (ICA), the session of the Consultative Council of heads of the state archival services of CIS countries, and a number of other events which brought together archivists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine. Participants from Belarusian side were Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus, V.A. Adamushko, Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, V.D. Selemenev, and Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies, A.E. Rybakov.
The EURASICA meeting discussed the report on executing the Action Plan for 2004-2008, adopted the Action Plan for 2009-2012, discussed the issues of the EURASICA regional department participation in the 16th International Congress of Archives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the publication of the EURASICA information bulletin, and more. In the focus was the discussion of the events to be conducted at the 16th International Congress of Archives by the EURASICA regional department of the ICA. Among these are the session titled “Archives in the period of democratic transformations”, a round table on the topic of “Archives in the service of the society”, presentation of reports “Reference and finding aids in the Internet”, “The Russian best practices in the transfer of archival documents”, etc.

The EURASICA regional department conducted the election of its governing body. A.S. Virabian, head of the State Archival Service of Armenia, has been elected Chairman of the EURASICA Executive Bureau; V.I. Adamushko, director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus, as Deputy Chairman.

The Consultative Council of heads of the state archival services of CIS countries examined the issues concerning the council’s activities in humanitarian cooperation, the Inter-State Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation in Archives, the activities of the The All-Russian Archival Science and Records Management Research Institute (VNIIDAD) as a central organization for retraining and advanced training of professionals in archival science and records management in CIS countries, the types of records created by the presidents of CIS countries, the establishment of presidential archives, and more. V.I. Adamushko, director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus, provided a report on the activities of the State Archival Service of Belarus in 2007-2008.

On 4 June the Presidential Hall of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted a celebration meeting dedicated to 90 Years of the the Federal Archival Service of Russia. Among the speakers at the meeting was the director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus, V.I. Adamushko.

The Belarusian side held negotiations with heads of the archival services of Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation.
