The delegation of the Department for Archives and Records Management made a business trip to Muscat (Sultanate of Oman)
The delegation of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus made a business trip to Muscat (Sultanate of Oman) on 10-13 December 2018. The delegation included Director of the Department Victor Kourash and Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Science Andrey Rybakov, who took part in Belarusian-Omani negotiations in the field of archives and records management.
On the sidelines of the visit, on 11 December, members of the Belarusian delegation visited the National Records and Archive Authority of the Sultanate of Oman to acquaint with the basic activities of this government agency and the work of its all sub-divisions. During the official meeting Director of the Belarusian Department Victor Kourash and Chairman of the Omani National Authority H.E. Dr. Hamad Al-Dhawayani discussed the issues of possible bilateral cooperation between the Belarusian and Omani archivists. The Belarusian side made proposals for organization of joint exhibitions of archival records, participation of archivists of the two countries in conferences, workshops and symposiums, the training of Omani archivists in Belarusian archival institutions and training of Belarusian archivists in the Sultanate of Oman, the exchange of theoretical and guidance literature in issues of archives and records management, and organization of study courses for Omani archivists (possibly on the base of the History Faculty of the Belarusian State University). The Omani colleagues proposed to conclude a Memorandum of Cooperation between the archive services of Belarus and Oman.
Victor Kourash also informed Hamad Al-Dhawayani on the activities of the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA) and proposed the Omani colleagues to examine the issue of their participation in its work as an authorized representative or observer.
On 12 December the Belarusian delegation visited the Parliament of the Sultanate of Oman and had a meeting with Vice Chairman of the Parliament Mohammed Abu-Bakar Salim Al Ghassani.
During the visit of the Belarusian delegation to the Sultanate of Oman an agreement was reached for bilateral cooperation between the archive services of Belarus and Oman in various areas of archives and records management to be realized in 2019-2020 and in the next years.
