The delegation of the Belarusian Archival Service took part in the session of the Consultative Council of leaders and representatives of archival services of the CIS member states

The delegation of the Belarusian Archival Service (Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V. Kourash and Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus A. Demyanyuk) took part in the session of the Consultative Council of leaders and representatives of archival services of the CIS member states and in the jubilee events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Archival Service held on 31 May and 1 June 2018 in Moscow (Russian Federation).

At the session of the Consultative Council the Department’s Director V. Kourash reported on the composition and retention periods of records used for social security of citizens in the CIS countries. The participants exchanged information and opinions on the role of archives in the context of electronic government and reviewed the development of archive business in the CIS countries in 2017. The participants included the heads of the archive services of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia and Russia. Representatives from Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan participated as observers.

The next session of the Consultative Council is scheduled to be held in 2019 in the Republic of Kirghizia.

On 1 June the Belarusian delegation participated in the ceremonial events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Russian Archival Service.

During the event the Director of the Belarusian Department for Archives and Records Management (Department) V. Kourash held negotiations with the Head of the Russian Federal Archival Agency (Rosarkhiv) A. Artizov. They discussed issues of further bilateral cooperation between Belarusian and Russian archivists and issues of the forthcoming professional meeting of heads of archival services and institutions of Belarus and Russia and the joint board meeting of the Department and Rosarkhiv.
