Round table on “Mycological Safety in Archives” brought together 40 representatives of archival institutions in Belarus
The round table on “Mycological Safety in Archives” was held on 28 May 2018.
The organizers were the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry (Department) and the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Science (BelNIIDAD).
The event was held in the press hall of the National Historical Archives of Belarus.
The objectives of the event are to increase effective measures taken by archives in creating normal conditions for storage; to train archive personnel in preventive work with moldy damages; to decrease the amount of documents requiring disinfection and cleansing.
The round table brought together over 40 people representing heads and specialists of the state archival institutions in the country.
The participants discussed issues relating to the moldy damage of natural and industrial materials, archival facilities and documents; the impact of mold fungi on human health, various methods and techniques against moldy damage and preventive work in this area.
The speakers at the event were Department’s Deputy Director O. Ledovskaya; BelNIIDAD’s leading research worker, Ph.D. in Biology I. Goncharova; head of disinfection, disinsection and binding at the Central Laboratory of Records Microfilming and Restoration A. Yaroslavtseva; Deputy Director of the State Archives of Minsk Region V. Starobinets, and more.
