The lists of Austrian Jews deported to Belarus in WWII were handed to Belarusian side at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus

Hubert Steiner from the Austrian National Archives in Vienna pays a visit to Belarus on 15 – 20 January 2016. For 30 years he has conducted research into the history of Jewish families in the Second World War, the fates of individual persons, and has been studying and collecting documents relating to the concentration camp at Maly Trostenets. This was the largest death camp in Belarus and the occupied USSR, created in 1941 in the environs of Minsk. At Trostenets the Nazis killed civilians, prisoners of war from the USSR and citizens of Jewish nationality from Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Austria. As part of the research, H. Steiner wrote a number of articles on the work of the Austrian Historical Commission for Issues of Deportation of Vienna Jews to Belarus.

On 18 January 2016 at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus the lists of Austrian Jews deported to Belarus in the Second World War were handed over to Belarusian side. The lists include nearly 10 000 family names.
