National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presents collections of published documents Partisans in Operation Bagration, Khatyn Necropolis

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presents new collections of published documents in the book series “Archives. History. Memory”: “Partisans in Operation Bagration” and “Khatyn Necropolis”.

 Book cover Partisans in the Bagration Operation The book “Partisans in Operation Bagration” was produced to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders. This includes 200 documents from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus that testify how Belarusian Partisans prepared and executed the third phase of the “Rail War”, which began on the night of 20 June 1944, and narrate about the combat interconnection between the Partisans and the Red Army troops in the course of Operation Bagration. The book publishes orders, directives, instructions, coded telegrams, radiograms, plans, reports, memoranda, information, certificates, despatches, applications. Also included are chronicles of the Partisan brigades. 195 documents have been used in scholarly research for the first time.
 Book cover The Khatyn Necropolis The book “Khatyn Necropolis” was published to mark 45 years since the opening of the Khatyn Memorial Complex. This is dedicated to the construction of the Khatyn memorial cemetry of destroyed villages in Belarus and tells about the tragedy that happened in each of the immortalized villages.

The book contains certificates, acts, reports, transcripts of interrogation, recollections by witnesses and surviving residents from burned villages and other documents identified at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, the Central Archives of Belarus KGB (Committee for State Security) and the State Archives of the Russian Federation. In all, the book includes 181 documents. A number of materials have been taken from the series of documented chronicles of Belarusian towns and districts “Memory”. Also included are photos from the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings, the personal archives of local specialist A.F. Bublo etc.

The book was prepared as part of the Project “Raising the Status of Surviving Residents from Burned Villages in Belarus” and was published with the assistance of the Russian Historical Memory Foundation for Assistance to Topical Historical Research.
