«We Will Never Forget This Day»: An employee of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno participated in a memorial service at Secondary School No.12 in Molodechno

June 22 is a day when Belarus mourns. Minutes of silence, flower-laying, and memorial services are all links in a single chain called memory. And in this chain, archival staff occupy a special place. They are the guardians not just of papers, but of living history, human destinies, and the truth about heroism and tragedy.

The memorial service «We Will Never Forget This Day», held at Secondary School No.12 in Molodechno, dedicated to National Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, is more than just an official event. It is a living connection between generations and an opportunity for archivists to fulfill their educational mission.

Maria Mechkovskaya, an employee of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno, spoke as an invited guest at the event about the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in Molodechno and its consequences for the city and region, emphasizing the special role of archives in preserving historical memory. «The State Archives of the Republic of Belarus are conducting comprehensive work to preserve, study, introduce into scientific circulation, and popularize documentary sources containing information about the criminal Nazi occupation policy in Belarus from 1941 to 1944», the archivist noted.

The Great Patriotic War
is one of the key events in modern history. Preserving the memory of its events, outstanding participants, and heroic deeds spiritually unites our society and is one of the main components of the historical consciousness of the Belarusian people.
