The «Last Bell» celebration in the USSR was first held on May 25, 1948, in Moscow, and since the 1970s has become a nationwide tradition. The ceremony, initiated by Soviet educators Fyodor Bryukhovetsky and Georgy Aseyev, included formal dress code, a school assembly, flower-laying, and a farewell waltz.
