Professional development classes for employees of state archival institutions

On May 25-29, 2026, advanced training courses «Modern approaches to the organization of archival affairs in the Republic of Belarus» were held, organized by the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the Historical Faculty of the Belarusian State University.

The lectures were conducted by teachers of the Belarusian State University, highly qualified specialists of the republican archival institutions.

The course program had relevant topics and covered the issues of the activities of state archives in the field of acquisition, preservation, state accounting, and the use of archival documents. Special emphasis was placed on highlighting the use of Internet technologies to expand access to archival documents, work with electronic documents, examine the value of documents and complete state archives, taking into account the amendments made to the Law of the Republic of Belarus dated November 25, 2011. «On Archival affairs and record keeping», updated approaches to the development of a new list of standard documents with an indication of retention periods, and the correction of terminology in the field of archival affairs and record keeping in connection with the adoption of the new state standard of the Republic of Belarus 2059-2026.

On May 26, 2026, the course participants were able to familiarize themselves with the work on the main areas of activity of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus

On May 29, 2025, a round table «Modern challenges and opportunities in the field of document management and archival affairs» was held, which was attended by O.L.Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management, Head of the Department of Source Studies at the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor S.N.Khodin, Director of the Belarusian Scientific Research Institute of Documentation and Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor A.E.Rybakov.

In his speech, O.L.Voinov focused on the urgent tasks facing state archival institutions: optimizing document formation and document management in republican government bodies, local executive and administrative bodies to achieve the goals of «zero bureaucracy», the transition of state archives to permanent storage of electronic documents, activation of the transition of archival institutions to the process of digital transformation, the need to introduce artificial intelligence technologies into archival work, accelerating the pace of digitization of particularly valuable documents, etc.

At the end of the course, students were presented with certificates of advanced training of the established standard.
