BGAMLI at the opening of the exhibition «I thought of you and wanted to write…» (Adam Bogdanovich and Maxim Gorky)

On May 14, 2026, staff of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) visited the Maxim Bogdanovich Literary Museum, where a presentation of the joint Belarusian-Russian exhibition project «I thought of you and wanted to write…» (Adam Bogdanovich and Maxim Gorky) took place. The exhibition opening took place during the Days of Nizhny Novgorod in Minsk, as part of the International Cultural and Educational Festival «The Path of Friendship».

Adam Bogdanovich and Maxim Gorky met in 1896, after the Bogdanovich family moved permanently to Nizhny Novgorod. They became friends, and soon became family when Adam Yegorovich married Alexandra Volzhina, the sister of Maxim Gorky’s wife. Their friendship lasted for many decades. The exhibition «I remembered you and wanted to write..». (Adam Bogdanovich and Maxim Gorky)» features valuable materials from the collections of the State A.M.Gorky Museum related to the Bogdanovich family—photographs, letters, autographs, and typescripts—revealing unknown chapters in the lives of the two families. The exhibition also features original materials from the Maxim Bogdanovich Museum collection, revealing the friendly relationship between Gorky and A.Bogdanovich.

For archival museum specialists, visiting this exhibition offers valuable experience in organizing exhibition projects. The exhibition’s themes directly align with the collections of the BGAMLI, which houses the Bogdanovich family’s collection of documents (Fund 153). Participation in such events helps strengthen the professional ties between the archive and the museum.
