No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten… The Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation celebrates Victory Day

«Vienna remembers, the Alps and the Danube remember,
That blooming and singing bright May»

On the eve of Victory Day, the lines from this famous song resonate in the hearts of everyone whose family and friends, and perhaps even themselves, were touched by the war.

Much time has passed since those years, but those terrible events remain etched in the people’s memory for centuries.

Honoring veterans, visiting memorial sites, and the graves of fallen soldiers… All of this has become a cherished tradition for the Belarusian people, especially on the eve of Victory Day.

Archival workers in Belarus were no exception.

On May 8, 2026, employees of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation, led by Acting Director Grigory Stepanovich Zholnerkevich, visited a military cemetery. After laying flowers at the monument to the unknown soldier, the employees observed a moment of silence in memory of the war’s victims.

The next event was a staff meeting. Addressing his colleagues, Grigory Stepanovich urged them not to consign the events and consequences of the Great Patriotic War to oblivion, in order to prevent similar events in the future.

Particular attention was paid to those who participated in the war. To preserve their memory, the archive’s staff created a video, «Architects – Veterans», using neural network technologies.

The video was created using documents from the personal collections of renowned architects such as Viktor Matveyevich Volchek, Yevgeny Konstantinovich Dyatlov, Georgy Artemovich Parsadanov, and Georgy Vladimirovich Zaborsky from the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

Ekaterina Aleksandrovna Kurakova, Head of the Information and Document Use Department, and Vyacheslav Vitalyevich Rabetsky, a second-category archivist in the Department of Records Management and Formation of the National Archival Fund, directly participated in the creation of the video. The video was created under the supervision of Grigory Stepanovich Zholnerkevich, Acting Director of the Belarusian State Archive of Scientific and Technical Documentation.

Thanking his colleagues for their work, Grigory Stepanovich noted the important role archivists play in preserving the nation’s memory and urged his colleagues present to carry out this mission with dignity and prevent the falsification of history.
