Chernobyl Memory: Film Lectures Held at the Minsk State College of Digital Technologies
On April 28 and 29, 2026, the Minsk State College of Digital Technologies held commemorative events to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident. Deputy Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, Sergei Nikolaevich Ryndin, held two special screenings of the documentary film «Chernobyl: Chronicles of a Tragedy» for students.
Produced by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Audio Documents, the film is a unique collection of archival footage capturing the first days after the disaster, the heroic work of the liquidators, and the consequences of the accident for the environment and the people of Belarus.
During the meetings, Sergei Ryndin discussed with young people the importance of preserving the historical memory of man-made disasters and the heroism of our compatriots. Students were given the opportunity to examine the events of 1986 through the lens of objective archival evidence, which allowed them to gain a deeper understanding of the scale of the tragedy and the significance of the lessons learned from it.
This format of collaboration between the archive and educational institutions helps foster in students a responsible attitude toward the history of their country and an understanding of the value of documentary heritage.
